We decided that it was too hot even for the lake today. Instead, we enjoyed the free A/C of the NC Museum of History and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences...as well as great mexican food in the City Market District.

Davidson Prep Academy 2011/2012
Our school year here at Davidson Preparatory Academy (our homeschool) has taken a break for the summer but here are a few pics from this past school year. Ramsey is a rising 6th grader and Bradey is a rising 4th grader.
After attending a play at the Children's Theater in downtown Charlotte, we stopped by A Child's Place, a charity for homeless children in the Charlotte region, and packed snack bags. We had taken Mom with us to the play for her birthday and she wrote inspirational notes to put in the snack bags.
After volunteering at A Child's Place, we stopped by the Second Helping coffee kiosk for refreshments. Second Helping is a pathway for incarcerated women to gain entrepreneurial skills when released. They let the girls go behind the bar and watch the process.
The girls and I worked with 5 - 7 year olds at this year's Special Olympics. We cannot wait to help again next year!
Happy 4th of July
Happy 4th of July! Here is a pic of the girls with their Girl Scout sisters right before they marched in the Harrisburg parade. It was a family event with Michael driving the truck (he loves being in the parade :) and me walking with the girls (I'm their troop leader). Ramsey is standing in the middle (white hat/tan vest with her best gal Riley's arm on her)...she must have said or done something because the girls around her are giggling? Maybe whatever she did made Bradey hold her nose to the left of her (camo hat/green vest).
After the parade we came home for showers and a little rest before dinner, music, fireworks and fun with friends!

Bradey's Canter
Here is a video of Bradey cantering. Please turn down your volume and excuse the loud lady in the foreground (me). She has learned her lesson to video in silence :).
Bradey fell off her horse a couple of times at barn that we used to go to and was hesitant to get back up to a canter. Ms. Morgan, her trainer, has been working patiently with her step by step to get back to this point. Ms. Morgan even hopped on the horse behind Bradey (and the saddle) and rode with her as she cantered for the first time off the lunge line. That's all it took...she's off and cantering again.
Riding Lessons - Ramsey
The girls take riding lessons from a wonderful trainer, Ms. Morgan, at Huntley Ridge www.huntleyridge.com
They train in both hunter/jumper and western. This is a video of Ramsey cantering in a western saddle.
Where has the time gone?
Well, first off, let me acknowledge that it has been way too long since I've posted on this blog. I have family and friends that are not very happy with me :) I'm not a big Facebook fan, so, this is where I prefer to keep folks up to date with the goings on of our little family. So much has gone on in the many, many, months/years since I last posted. We've had great adventures, been to some exciting new places and the girls have grown an inch or two...to say the least. I am going to try to post some of the things we've done and strive to get better at posting some of the things that we are doing. Wish me luck!
